Bonesteele Trail, Aumsville, OR

Short, easy trail but needs some clean up!!

Location: In Salem, go south on Lancaster Dr. When you pass Cordon road, Lancaster turns into Aumsville Highway. Follow Aumsville Hwy for 2.5 miles and you’ll see the sign and parking lot on the left. Make sure as you are getting close, keep an eye out on the right side for a home (it’s on a left hand bend) You’ll see a few camels and zebras – super cool!!

Difficulty: 2/5 just because there are some logs to climb over and narrow trails

Kid Friendly: Yes, my 2 yr old walked the whole trail with ease.

Stroller Accessible: For about half of the trail, you could possibly bring a jogging stroller but you’d have to turn back. The trail gets bumpy and narrow after.

Description: When I first looked this place up on the internet, the website mentioned that it was getting an overhaul. I’m not sure when that was supposed to be done. When we arrived, we visited the bathrooms – EEWWW – these were bad. Dirty, no TP. Then as we headed down the trail, there were a lot of gatorade bottles with who-knows-what in them. Further down the trail there was a lot of broken glass and more plastic bottles thrown all over the place.

There were 2 trails that met up with each other half way through. The other trails just faded out. We also ended this hike being seriously overwhelmed with the intense scent of skunk!! This was a very short hike but we wont be back. There is a lot of cleaning up that needs to be done before I will recommend anyone visit this site, especially with kids!! I did manage to get a few good pictures though!
